UTkoyo students can have a CAWK orientation(about 10 mins)  in person or online anytime when CAWK is available. *avoid busy time.
In this orientation, you can get to know how to use CAWK, so please feel free to come to CAWK during your free time.

Types of support

We support students taking ALESS, ALESA and FLOW.

The following support is available:

  • Consultation on ALESS and ALESA writing assignments (Tutorial)
  • Consultation regarding learning ALESS, ALESA, and FLOW (Tutorial) 
  • Speaking practice for FLOW assignments (Individual or Group Practice)
  • Lunchtime Chat

Tutorial (Reservation / Pop in)

  • Tutorials take 40 minutes per 1 slot.
  • CAWK (Building 10, Room 103) is open from 12:10-18:35 during the semester (except Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays when there are no classes). However, please check the reservation page above to see available slots. Reservations are only available from 3rd to 5th period, and usually require a reservation. *Reservations are not required for a limited period of time at the start of the semester–please refer to our reservation page and Twitter for details.
  • The tutorial can be conducted in English and/or Japanese.
  • Last-minute openings may become available due to last-minute cancellations. Please check our reservation site or X (Twitter) for last-minute availability.
  • Towards the end of the semester, there are many students who try to make reservations. Please make your appointment as soon as possible.
  • If you wish to participate in a last-minute opening online, please access the Zoom URL given by your course instructor or writte on the reservation email you got in the past. Please wait for the instructions at the waiting room.

Individual / Group Practice (No reservation required)

If you wish to practise FLOW presentations or assignments individually (without a tutor), you may freely use  available monitors and desks in CAWK during opening hours. You may also use the monitors and desks to practise group presentations with your group members. Please note that if CAWK is full of students, you may not be allowed to use the room.

*To prevent corona infection, please do not speak loudly.

Lunchtime Chat (No reservation required)

Held from 12:10 to 13:00 on the days CAWK is open.

*Starting from the second week of the semester ~ the last day of the semester
*You can enter and leave the room anytime between 12:10 and 13:00.

  • You can improve your English speaking skills by having free conversation with international students from 3rd and 4th year PEAK students (occasionally non-PEAK students as well).
  • Free conversation topics may include news, your own research, hobbies, topical works, etc.
  • We highly encourage those who are not taking the FLOW course or do not have much opportunities to speak English in daily life to join us.

 

Location : CAWK  *You cannot have lunch at CAWK as no food or drink is allowed.

The Japanese Language Department supports non-native Japanese language students to write papers in Japanese. You can ask in the tutorials regarding writing, presentations, and other assignments assigned in class. Eligible classes are as follows.

About the support for humanities :

◆Opening days: Weekdays during S-semester classes (except for the days when all classes are cancelled)

 Daytime open: 11:30-14:00 (Admission until 13:45)
 Evening open: 17:00-20:00 (Entry by 19:45)

 You may enter anytime up to 15 minutes before the end of the day.

Advanced Foreign Language

Types of support

We will support compositions, reports, assignments, papers, presentations etc. for students enrolled in each of the advanced foreign language.

Speaking practice is also available for students who are not enrolled in any of the advanced foreign language.(Limited languages supported)

Types of support

We support writing papers, reports, and assignments  (Japanese/English) for graduate students in the following languages.

・Japanese(日本語支援)… We provide Japanese writing support for master’s students including international students

・English(英語支援)… We provide English writing support mainly for master’s degree programs (for doctoral degree programs, please inquire by e-mail)
 *If you are in a doctoral program and would like to request (only) English language support, please contact us by e-mail beforehands.

However, only students who are going to use this department, Graduate department, can reserve 2 session at a time. (80 minutes total) In this case, some tutors may take a 10-minute break between sessions as booking time. Please note that even if you book two sessions, you do not have to use the 80-minute max. If you think you need more than 40 minutes for a session, please book the two sessions one at a time.
